Wolf Spider

Today, as dad and I were junking out old lawnmowers, I found the coolest looking spider. She was carrying around her egg sack, which was a bright blue, and almost tin foil looking. I had no qualms about getting close enough to get her picture, although I now know that this is the brown recluse without the violin shape on her head. I will know when I run into one now.

Anyway, these shots were the best I got of her.

Wolf spider mothers carry their large egg sacs around with them. When the
young spiderlings hatch they climb onto their mother's back and ride around
until partially grown.

How cool is that?! She's like the marsupial of the insect world, and I got a picture of her in her natural habitat! WoO! At one point, when she was on the run, she detached the sack from her abdomen and carried it under her body, like she was hiding it. It was SO National Geographic. Should have been here!

Actually, that isn't a brown recluse. Brown recluses don't carry their eggs around under their bellies like that, and their abdomen is solid brown, never striped. This is most likely a wolf spider, common to much of the US and not nearly as dangerous.

Sorry, Jeff, I thought I made that a little more clear. The title of the post and the link that's in it are both WOLF spider. I was trying to explain the difference between the two. Thanks for the clarification.
