Green stuff
Carnival of the Green #19 is up over at BaloghBlog! Anything greenies would like to know can be found in the web of bloggers that link up over there.
Yesterday was the first day of spring. I drove to Boone after leaving the tax site, and there was snow on the ground. And on the road. And falling from the sky. I don't know if you remember me complaining earlier this month that we had not had any semblance of winter this winter, that it seemed like spring and fall had merged. My revised thinking is that spring and winter just flip-flopped this year, and that we're getting our dose of winter now that spring has officially arrived. I'm just incredibly glad that I didn't put any of my plants in the garden yet.
Speaking of plants, here's our progress report on what's planted and what's greenhoused:
- Potatoes and Onions - Dad has them in the ground, and they are really getting soaked today -with rain/sleet/slush stuff.
- Yellow Pear tomatoes and Spacemaster cucumbers - already doing well in the Jiffy greenhouse. The cucs are almost ready for transplant, and the maters have their first leaves. Looks like all the pellets are full.

- My sage and basil have been transplanted into a large hanging pot over my window, and are doing fairly well. Most of my first try at Mesclun has died out, but I have more seeds and I'll replant later in the season.
- I've started Green Giant broccoli, and have one seedling emerging (since two days ago), as well as my Lemon cucumbers and Cucuzzi and Roma tomatoes. They are eagerly awaiting some sunshine, but flourescent light will just have to do until then. The cilantro in my mini-greenhouse (a mini Cadbury egg holder) hasn't made it up yet, but I'll give it a few more days, since it's not in peat moss.
I think I heard on the radio a few days back that we're still under a moderate drought. We were 4" short going into March, coupled with the 13" we were short last year, if I remember correctly. Evidence of that can be seen at High Rock Lake, which is so far down you can almost walk across the entire thing. So, I'm not complaining about the rain. I am complaining about not seeing the sun. See the difference? ;-)
I'm celebrating my camera's one year birthday over at my flickr. I really can't believe I've taken 19,010 photos in a year. If I was a pro, maybe. I'm far from it. Most of them (the good ones) are still on my hard drive. That's a couple dozen gigs, in case you're wondering.
Work has been pretty tough lately - it's sick season at the post office, and I was no exception. Half a day Saturday was all I could pull - came home sick and slept the entire day away. I am feeling a bit better now, though. At church, I've got some newsletter work to do, since we missed last month. Oh, and some website work, too, since I haven't updated since who knows when. Ick.
So away I go. Tata for now.

May spring weather come your way soon.
Well, dang, Mandie. I can tell I've been behind in my blog-reading because I just now noticed your new template! Unless I tried to visit during the many times Blogspot seemed to be struggling in the last few weeks.
What kind of taters? A little lady for Darth Tater? Are there taterettes in his future?
Was a wonderful idea,, thought though, maybe lunch would have been a bit more appealing. Didn't have too much time for church myself, though I did get an hour sleep anyway.
